Alef Aeronautics

Electrek reported on October 15, 2026 that California-based Alef had completed its 1,000th logged flight and that, by 2023, Alef had received an FAA special airworthiness certification. Electrek also reported a price starting at $299,999, deposits of $150 or $1,500, and more than 3,600 pre-orders which it valued at $1 billion. A special airworthiness certification is not a type certificate. Electrek said the first hand-built batch was expected with a limited number of early buyers by the end of 2026, for controlled testing, with a production ramp in 2027. Those dates are targets.

Electrek reported on October 15, 2026 that by 2023 Alef had received an FAA special airworthiness certification. Electrek did not give the day. A special airworthiness certificate is not a type certificate. Electrek's description of it as government recognition of a flying car is Electrek's framing.
